Perlis coach Irfan Bakti said he had always considered the National Under-19 outfit to be their biggest hurdle in the Cup competition.
That’s because the Harimau Muda side, who have been going great guns in the Premier League, had scalped two Super League teams — Terengganu and KL Plus — en route to making the last eight of the FA Cup competition.
And so Irfan was delighted to see his team go through 1-0 on aggregate after a goalless draw in the return-leg on Saturday.
“As far as I am concerned, we have cleared a big hurdle by merely stopping the young upstarts,” Irfan said in a telephone interview from Kangar yesterday.
“They not only have good understanding, having been together for one and half years now, but are one of the fittest teams in the country today.
“That made them dangerous and tricky opponents but I am glad we were able to stop them. It was a great achievement. What was more encouraging was that all our hard work has paid dividends and we are now in the semi-finals.”
Perlis will meet Selangor while Kelantan take on Negri in the semi-finals. The first-leg matches will be on April 7 and the return-legs on April 18.
Irfan is glad to face Selangor as “it will give us a chance to avenge our 1-2 Super League loss at the Shah Alam Stadium last month”.
But for now, Irfan has told his players to focus on Super League, which will resume on March 21 with Perlis hosting Perak at the Stadium Utama in Kangar.
