Genoa’s Milito and Motta set to join Inter Milan

MILAN: Forward Diego Milito of Argentina and Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta have agreed to join Serie A champion Inter Milan from Genoa this offseason.

The duo has been instrumental in Genoa’s push for a Champions League place this season, with Milito scoring 20 goals and Motta providing the creative spark in midfield.

“I met president (Massimo) Moratti today and we came to an agreement for the sale of Milito and Motta at the end of the season and I want to thank them for everything they have done (for Genoa),” Genoa president Enrico Preziosi told reporters.

No transfer fees have been announced for the deal, but Inter striker Robert Acquafreca – who has scored 12 goals while on loan at Cagliari – will join Genoa.

Preziosi promised supporters that the Italy Under-21 striker won’t be the last signing.

“We will strengthen our team,” he said. “We have to work harder than others if we want a strong squad, because we have to rely on swaps. If we see a strong player, we definitely can’t throw money at him.” — AP
