Cahill on road to recovery

Everton have been handed a boost with the news that Tim Cahill has returned to training.

Cahill has been out of action since May after undergoing surgery on a troublesome metatarsal injury.

The Australian international has now been given the green light to step up his recovery and is pushing for a return to action.

"Tim's back in full training," Everton head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website. "He's been training the last couple of days in fact.

"He got the go ahead from his surgeon in Sydney, who we sent the latest batch of X-rays to a week or so ago. He's emailed us back having reviewed them and he's delighted with the progress of the repair.

"He's trained brilliantly and he looks in very good shape. He's excelled at all the conditioning exercises and he's been champing at the bit to get back involved.

"All players want to play and he's had a lot of problems with that foot. But hopefully it's sorted now.

"The previous surgery hadn't really solved the problem but this was advanced, almost revolutionary surgery, and - touch wood - it looks good."
